In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, while many businesses are downsizing their office spaces, MobiLab is expanding. The company has moved to a new, modern office with more than 1,500 square meters in the heart of Cologne's Rheinauhafen district.
In 2019 we added Cloud Adoption to our field of expertise. And we began engineering ontologies, the foundation of everything we build in AI today.
Long before ontologies became a topic in the AI world, we recognized that data only creates value when systems share a common understanding of what it means. We started capturing the concepts, relationships and rules that define an enterprise in living ontologies, and running them in production for our customers. Years later, as AI moved to the center of every business, this early bet became our biggest advantage: it is what lets us ground enterprise AI in the reality of each customer's business.
In 2017, MobiLab made a management buyout and bought back all shares from its investors to have back complete control over its own destiny.
With the new freedom, we could navigate freely without the pressure of an investor and focus on dealing with master data management and building data integration platforms.
MobiLab was founded in 2011 out of a living room with a single purpose of making mobile payment possible through smartphones.
We successfully secured major funding from Deutsche Telekom AG and METRO AG and soon found out that our idea was too early for the market to be accepted. But we had one big lesson as a key takeaway: we were pretty good at engineering robust software from backend to frontend and could close major customers in need of rock-solid software to support them in their digitization endeavors.
